“Life Sciences Platform” in the regio Aachen-Jülich. Initiated by the strong demand for a unified organization for “life science” related topics within the “Maas-Rhine”euregio. In the summer of 2000 the association LifeTecAachen-Jülich e.V. was founded. In close conjunction with regional and euregional partners it supports competence already present in the regio Aachen-Jülich and serves as a platform for a variety of activities. LifeTecAachen-Jülich e.V. combines partners from science, economy (established as well as start-ups), development agencies and capital. The strength of the association is based mainly on the high competence of each of its members. The aim of the association is caring for wideniny those networks and to commit the region’s development to become a high quality international “life science – cluster”. To be a catalyst for identification and strengthening of the internal synergies is how the LifeTecAachen-Jülich understands its role. BioLiège is an association of academic units and biotech companies enhancing cross-fertilization between industrial and academic research in the field of biotechnology. It promotes biotechnology, stimulates contacts and collaboration with other universities in Belgium and abroad, acts as a privileged intermediary between biotechnologists and regulatory or funding authorities and sets up interactive forums and debates on current issues. Life sciences is a spearhead sector in the province of Belgian Limburg. At Hasselt University (UHasselt), the Biomedical Research Institute (BIOMED) focuses on neuroinflammation, autoimmunity and the development of biosensors. In addition, BIOMED is the driving force behind the linking organization LifeTechLimburg.be. LifeTechLimburg.be acts as a one-stop-shop for life sciences development in Limburg by uniting the expertise of provincial stake holders: UHasselt, the technical universities XIOS, KHLIM and PHL, the regional hospitals Virga Jesse and ZOL, the provincial development agency (POM)-Limburg, VLAO–Flanders Enterprises and Innovation Center Limburg and the Limburg Investment Company (LRM). LifeTechLimburg.be is dedicated to the creation, attraction and guidance of life sciences companies and to the enforcement of their international visibility and reputation. LifeTechLimburg.be promotes networking, cooperation and knowledge transfer between life sciences companies, knowledge centers and hospitals in Limburg and the euregion.
